NAGAON: Citizen Forum, Nagaon on Friday staged a sit-in against the recent move of Guwahati based Library Service Directorate, Assam to auction the historic vehicle of mobile library service under Nagaon District Library at Motiram Bora Park near Nowgong College (autonomous).
Over hundred of agitators from the forum as well as Krishak Sabha and the district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad participated in the stir and strongly criticized the initiative of Library Service Directorate in this regard.
During the protest, the participants shouted various slogans against the move and sought scientific preservation of the historic vehicle of the mobile library at any cost. Besides, a meeting was also organized at the site of protest in which social activist Mukut Bhuyan chaired the session while Manoj Singha Raja anchored it.
Following the stir, the agitators submitted a memorandum with mass signatures to the director of Liberty Service Directorate, Assam through Deputy Commissioner, Nagaon. In the memorandum, the protesters demanded to preserve the historic vehicle of the mobile library at the district itself instead of its auction.
Pragjyotish Bonia, district president of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad, Ratul Bora, Krishak Sabha, Mukut Bhuyan, noted social activist and news papers distributor of the small town, Puniram Saikia, senior citizens like Amrendra Sarma, Abdul Salam participated in the programme.
