Civil societies condemn transfer of Dima Hasao officers

A CORRESPONDENT,

HAFLONG: At a time when entire populace of Dima Hasao and other places have been demanding CBI inquiry and exemplary punishment to the culprit involved in the Santosh Hojai killing, the transfer of Dima Hasao SP and DSP has drawn wide spread condemnation and criticism from every quarters of society.

Reacting to the government's order of transfer of Dima Hasao SP Bir Bikram Gogoi and DSP Surjyakanta Morang Jadikhe Naisho Hosom working president Ranjoal Hakmosa said, "We have been demanding justice in the matter of kidnapping and killing of Santosh Hojai but the government instead of delivering justice has transferred SP and DSP." Dimasa Students' Union, (DSU) General Secretary Pramith Sengyung has condemned the transfer of SP and DSP, saying that at this juncture the move was not justified since they had been demanding CBI inquiry into the matter in which involvement of DSP was alleged by Hojai's wife in the FIR at Harangajao Police Station. He added that they were bound to go for stronger agitation very soon.

President, All Dimasa Students' Union (ADSU) Dima Hasao District Committee, Uttam Langthasa, was also of the opinion that government should not have transferred the officers as the entire public had been demanding CBI inquiry and exemplary punishment to the culprit involved in the killing of Hojai so that none could dare to commit such heinous crime, be it police personnel or general public. Langthasa also said that transfer of SP and DSP is an eyewash for the public but people are adamant to raise voice against such injustice and it will continue till justice is delivered.

Halali Progressive Welfare Society president Dilip Nunisa said that his organization criticized the double standards of the government as instead of arresting DSP SK Morang it has transferred him to Katlichera of Hailakandi district amidst 36-hour Dima Raji bandh. HPWS Haflong is determined and resolved in siting in a peaceful dharna in front of DC office at Haflong, demanding immediate arrest of alleged and accused DSP SK Morang and his gang and implementation of Memorandum of Settlement signed between governments of Assam, India and DHD on October 8, 2012. HPWS expressed its gratefulness to all the citizens of Dima Hasao in particular and citizens of different districts of proposed Dimaraji areas of Assam for their co-operation and support to make the bandh a grand success.
