GUWAHATI: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Monday said that HSLC and HS examinations under SEBA and AHSEC will be conducted and under no circumstances the same will be canceled.

Speaking to the media, Pegu said that the exams will be conducted as soon as the Covid situation across the state gets better and is hopeful that by June 15 the Covid situation will be stabilized.

The education minister also said that students will be informed about the date sheet at least 15 days prior to the examination and will be held in offline mode, however, the examination format may change this year.

It is to be mentioned here that the Assam state government has decided that this academic year, students who will be appearing for the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC)/ Higher Secondary (HS) exams can appear in three papers only.

The minister said that in this regard a discussion has been going with the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council and a proposal has already been submitted.

However, an official notification of the same is said to be out in a couple of days times.

Notably, in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exams students have to appear for six subjects, and for Higher Secondary (HS) exams in all the streams- Arts, Science and Commerce, students have to appear for five subjects.

Henceforth this year students who will be appearing for the HSLC and HS can choose three subjects only and have to clear all of them.

The minister also said that admission to Standard 11 for CBSE passed out students has been restricted as the State Education Board of Assam and Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council is yet to conduct the examinations.

The class 10 and 12 exams scheduled to be held from May 11 were deferred due to the prevailing devastating situation in the state.

Altogether 4,26,508 candidates are registered for this year's HSLC examination while 12,275 candidates are slated to appear in the AHM examination-2021.

On the other hand, a total of 2,49,812 candidates are registered for the HS final examination-2021. Of them, a total of 1,91,860 candidates are in the Arts stream; 38, 431 in the Science stream; 18, 440 in the Commerce stream; and 1,081 candidates have been registered in the Vocational stream.
