Cleanliness drive conducted to mark Swahid Divas in Mangaldai

MANGALDAI: Synchronizing with the Statewide celebration of 'Swahid Divas' to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of the martyrs during the historic six year-long Assam Agitation from 1979 to 1985, the volunteers of Village Defense Organization of Mangaldai Thana Committee on Thursday undertook a cleanliness drive in Mangaldai Police Station complex, the road leading to the District Judge and Superintendent of Police office and courtyard of Shiva Mandir. Deputy adviser of Darrang district committee of Village Defense Organization, Mukut Saiki,a in association with the Thana Advisory Committee, organized the cleanliness drive at Mangaldai.

"Every year, December 10 is celebrated as Swahid Divas since 1979 in holy memory of the swahids of the Assam Movement. We decided to conduct the cleanliness drive to mark the Swahid Divas. All the members and volunteers of Village Defense Organization in Darrang district have taken the pledge to make Darrang district a clean and green one," said deputy adviser of Village Defense Organization and social activist, Mukut Saikia while talking to The Sentinel.

Officer in-charge of Mangaldai Police Station, Inspector Dina Bandhu Bhuyan, in-charge of Town Branch Sub-Inspector Dantejit Deuri, president of Thana Advisory Committee, Nayan Kumar Das, Circle Organizer of Mangaldai Police Station, Kushal Medhi and a large number of VDP volunteers took part in the cleanliness drive.
