Close shave for Jorhat Don Bosco school students as school van loses control

JORHAT: It was a close shave for 15 students of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Baghchung, when a school van bearing registration no. AS-01Y-5852 lost control and was about to hit the corner of a wall while taking U-turn towards south Bongal Pukhuri from the Na-Ali State Highway-32 at around 12 pm on Monday.

The speeding school van lost control after overtaking a two-wheeler, said, eyewitnesses. A complaint has been lodged with the Jorhat Traffic Police for their intervention as school vans are increasing in number and the authority concerned has totally failed to monitor or check them. So far three similar kinds of accidents where students had a close shave were reported with pictures in media, but there is none to bell the cat, said a number of guardians.

Moreover, it has been alleged that the District Transport Authority rarely checks the validity of the school vehicles and does not ensure that they comply with all norms.
