Clothes Distributed Among Safai Karmis in Bilasipara

BILASIPARA: Under the aegis of the Dr BR Ambedkar Bhavan Management Committee, Bilasipara, clothes were distributed among around 50 safai karmis (sweepers) of Bilasipara town on Monday. In this connection, a meeting was held in the premises of the Dr BR Ambedkar Bhavan with Dayal Paul, president of the Bhavan committee, in the chair. Dr. Kanu Lal Das, secretary of the Bhavan committee, explained the aims and objectives of the meeting. Dr. Das said that safai karmis were the most neglected people of the society whereas they kept the town clean.

Keeping in view the economic conditions of the sweepers, the Dr. BR Ambedkar Bhavan Management Committee distributed clothes to the safai karmis on the eve of Durga Puja. At the beginning of the programme, Biren Karmaker offered floral tribute to the portrait of Dr. BR Ambedkar while Dayal Paul and Dr. Kanu Lal Das lit the ceremonial lamp.
