CM Flags off 'Light a Home' for Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao
These are funded by the Sri Sri Rural Development Program Trust
GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma today officially flagged off the vehicle carrying 2000 solar-powered lights to Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts by the Sri Sri Rural Development Program Trust of spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's Art of Living.
The solar lights were arranged by spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar under a project called 'Light a Home' These solar lamps will be installed in rural tribal villages in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts. These solar lamps are high quality and water resistant and come with a mobile phone charging system.
In his speech on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the 'Light a Home' project launched in 2013 has touched the lives of the people in vast areas of the country. The initiative has covered 3000 households in 760 villages in the country so far. The Chief Minister said that Sri Sri Ravi Shankar inspired the Cabinet Ministers and officers with his knowledge and wisdom while attending a think tank organized by the state government at Kaziranga on September 25 this year. After attending the function, the spiritual guru mentioned the sending of solar lamps to Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts under the 'Light a Home' programme. He said the Art of Living has already sent such candles to several villages in the state. The Chief Minister said the items were flagged off today and sent symbolically to spread the message among the people. The Chief Minister paid tribute and gratitude to Shri Shri Ravi Shankar on behalf of the people of Assam for this initiative.
Ministers Yogen Mohan, UG Brahma, Sanjay Kisan, Chief Secretary Pawan Kumar Barthakur, top officials of various departments and Director of Sri Sri Rural Development Program Trust Mausumi Pujari were present on the occasion.
