MORIGAON: In a significant step towards promoting women empowerment and ensuring a safe and secure working environment for women, a dedicated women’s hostel for working women is set to be constructed in Jagiroad. The hostel will be built under the initiative of the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and aims to encourage greater women participation in the workforce by addressing the need for secure housing facilities near workplaces.
The Chief Minister of Assam, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma will formally lay the foundation stone of the hostel on August 23 at the designated construction site in Jagiroad.
On Wednesday, concerned district and departmental officials visited the site to assess the overall preparedness and infrastructure. Necessary instructions were given to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the upcoming foundation stone laying ceremony.
The initiative reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to women’s safety, dignity, and empowerment in the workplace and is expected to serve as a model for similar efforts in other regions of the state.
Minister for Information & Public Relations, Water Resources, and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Assam, Pijush Hazarika, District Commissioner of Morigaon Anamika Tiwari, along with senior officials from GMDA, district administration, and other line departments were present during the site visit to oversee preparations.
