CM Himanta pays homage to 140 Krishak Swahids at Patharighat
Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday paid deep tribute to the 140 Krishak Swahids of the historic peasants’ uprising of January 28 of 1894 at Patharighat.

MANGALDAI: Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday paid deep tribute to the 140 Krishak Swahids of the historic peasants' uprising of January 28 of 1894 at Patharighat. He graced the open session of the 129th 'Krishak Swahid Divas ' celebration organised by the Darrang district administration at the Patharighat MV school play ground as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion after offering floral tribute to the Krishak Swahids at the Krishak Swahid memorial at the 'Krishak Swahid Udyan', Chief Minister Dr Sarma termed the Krishak Vidroh at Pothorughat as a glorious chapter of the history of India's freedom struggle and promised to give a formal shape to the institutions earlier built there by the government for training of the youths interested for farming.
He laid stress on appointing requisite human resources like scientists, researchers etc for the purpose. Later talking to media he also announced making of a high standard documentary for promoting the indomitable courage and valour of the peasant martyrs and broadcast it through different media channels working for exploring history.
Agriculture Minister Atul Bora earlier delivered the welcome address. A souvenir published on the occasion was also released in the meeting. Chandra Mohan Patowary, State Environment and Forest Minister, Rajya Sabha MP Pabitra Margherita, legislators Basanta Das of Mangaldai, Durga Das Boro of Kalaigaon, Majibar Rahman of Dalgaon and Paramananda Rajbongshi of Sipajhar and others were also present on the occasion. The day long celebration of the day also featured hoisting of the flag, plantation, all faith prayers, agricultural exhibition, lighting of the lamps.
