Dibrugarh, July 6: “The self-help groups have a crucial role to play in the empowerment of the women. Therefore, the members of such groups must be trained to take on any challenge in this competitive world,” said CM Sarbananda Sonowal in a meeting held at the Dibrugarh Circuit House on Thursday. The meeting was held to promote the objectives of the Kanaklata Women Empowerment Scheme of the State government.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the government had an aim in mind regarding the empowerment of the self-help groups through the said scheme, and therefore, stressed the need for developing a sense of entrepreneurship and self-dependence among the members of these groups through proper training. Accordingly, the CM ordered the Panchayat and Rural Development Department to arrange for such training sessions with the help of the local MLAs.

He also assured increasing the funds allotted to the beneficiaries under the scheme, if the self-help groups showed enough progress in terms of financial growth. The meeting was graced by a host of dignitaries including MP Rameshwar Teli, MLAs Rituparna Baruah, Prashanta Phukan and others.
