CM Sarbananda Sonowal attends 34th biennial conference of Deuri Sahitya Sabha

Government to set up Bhimbor Deuri memorial park

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced that the Assam government would set up a memorial park in the name of renowned freedom fighter Bhimbor Deuri in the State. He made this announcement while attending the open session of the 34th biennial conference of Deuri Sahitya Sabha at Bamsenia Pathar of Gogamukh in Dhemaji district on Thursday, stated a press release.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister underlined the unique qualities of the Deuri community. He emphasised the need for more awareness about the life and works of Bhimbor Deuri by the young generation. He also urged parents to motivate and inspire their children to take up their study more seriously so that they could acquire more knowledge.

Chief Minister Sonowal further said that his government would staunchly protect the rights and interests of the indigenous people. He also assured that his government would take no step which could harm the interests of the indigenous people.

Stating that the Assam government is working for equal development of all communities in the State, the Chief Minister said that Bhasa Gaurav Achoni was launched for protection and promotion of all indigenous languages. He informed that under this scheme financial assistance amounting to Rs. 10 crore to Axom Xahitya Xabha, Rs. 5 crore to Bodo Sahitya Sabha and Rs. 3 crore to each of the indigenous literary bodies are to be provided. He also urged the writers and litterateurs to create literary works which could promote unity and harmony as well as distinct traditions of all the communities.

Chief Minister Sonowal in the programme also presented literary award to writer Shasidhar Deuri which has been instituted by Deuri Sahitya Sabha.

While president of Deuri Sahitya Sabha Leela Deuri presided over the session, MP Pradan Baruah and MLA Dr. Ronuj Pegu also delivered speech. The open session was inaugurated by Tulan Deuri and the key note address was delivered by Kiran Bam Deuri. CEM of Deuri Autonomous Council Madhab Deuri and host of other dignitaries were present in the programme.
