CM Sarbananda Sonowal directs to prepare a vision plan through ground level study

Development of Sivasagar as an iconic site

GUWAHATI: Following the Union Budget declaration to develop Sivasagar as an iconic site, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday asked the Directorate of Archaeology of the State Government to prepare a vision plan through ground level study. The Chief Minister directed this while taking part in a review meeting to discuss various issues related to development of Sivasagar as an iconic site.

The Chief Minister while laying stress on the rich heritage of Sivasagar district asked the Directorate to carry out a physical survey of all the protected and listed historical sites by ASI, State Archaeology and district administration. He directed to identify and divide the sites into cultural, social, spiritual and sports depending on their use at the time of construction.

The Chief Minister also advised the Directorate to prepare detail background report of all the historical sites and a video of the monuments of Ahom era. Chief Minister Sonowal also stressed on early steps for beautification of the sites and working out a tourist circuit making best possible use of tourism potential of the district.

Moreover, the Chief Minister advised the Directorate to make an appeal to the people to provide the government all documents or manuscripts available with them relating to Ahom era so that same could be used in the vision plan. He also asked the deputy commissioners of Sivasagar and Charaideo district to settle all boundary related issues of the historical sites in consultation with local people.

All issues pertaining to development of Charaideo Moidam site for the World heritage Site status were also discussed in the meeting. The Chief Minister while reviewing the same, asked the DCs to follow up all relevant issues with concerned authorities and complete early demarcation of border of the Moidam site.

Minister of Water Resources who is also in-charge of matters relating to archaeology Keshav Mahanta, Minister of Industry & Commerce Chandra Mohan Patowary, Leader of the Opposition and MLA Nazira LAC Debabrata Saikia, Minister of State (i/c) for Revenue Jogen Mohan, MLAs Pradip Hazarika, Kushal Dowari, Nandita Handiqui, Ashok Sarma, Commissioner & Secretary of Cultural Affairs Department Preetom Saikia, Special Commissioner to CM Ranjan Chakravartty, Director of Archaeology Dr. Deepi Rekha Kouli, DCs of Sivasagar and Charaideo and host of other officials were present in the meeting, stated a press release.
