BOKAJAN: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday laid the foundation stone of a modern auditorium in Bokajan and a model residential school at Balipathar under 17 Bokajan ST LAC in the hill district of Karbi Anglong. The Chief Minister also inaugurated a 33-KV electric sub-station at Sarhiajan and attended a public meeting at Balipathar HS School playground.

Addressing the gathering, the Sonowal said that the people living across the plains and hills of Assam constituted the greater Assamese society and urged everyone to stay united. He congratulated the people of Bokajan and requested everyone to extend their support and cooperation in making the developmental projects a success. He called on the people of the State to work together with the government and take forward the State to unparalleled heights.

The Chief Minister also said that the State Government had been taking various steps to achieve a holistic overall development of the 36 districts in the State since coming to power in 2016. "Efforts are being made to build a robust work culture in the government offices and to ensure that public welfare schemes are implemented in a time-based manner," he added. The Chief Minister also committed to develop the tourism sector in Karbi Anglong and make it a tourism hub for tourists from all across the globe.

"The multi-storey modern auditorium will have a capacity of 900 seats and will be constructed under the Chief Minister Signature Project at an estimated cost of Rs 9.80 crore. The model residential school will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 31.2 crore. The construction will commence immediately and will be completed in18 months' time. We will hopefully begin the academic session from 2022," MLA Dr Numol Momin said.

The new sub-station will serve electricity to over 7,000 households in the Amarajan, Balipathar, Japrajan and Deopani area of Bokajan. "Earlier, electricity was distributed in these areas from the Bokajan Feeder and hence load shedding was frequent. Power supply was earlier snapped at the slightest rain or wind and was never restored till morning. Now, with the commissioning of this sub-station, consumers of those areas will at least receive static power supply and it will further develop the overall power scenario of Bokajan," the MLA added.

The Chief Minister also felicitated 22 individuals, including students and senior citizens, for their outstanding contribution in different fields at the public gathering. The programme was attended by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council CEM TuliramRonghang, HAD Minister Sum Ronghang, several EMs and MACs, among others.
