CM Sonowal dedicates Dibrugarh PS renovated under MOITRI scheme

DIBRUGARH: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal dedicated Dibrugarh Police Station, which has been rebuilt under Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image (MOITRI), at a programme held in Dibrugarh on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal said that in the present situation where science and technology were ruling the roost, the traditional practices of policing should be complemented with modern practices backed by science and technology. He said that the State Government had decided to renovate Dibrugarh Police Station under MOITRI scheme to empower the traditional method of policing by smart policing. Under MOITRI scheme in the first phase, as many as 73 police stations will be renovated.

Chief Minister Sonowal said that Dibrugarh Police Station had been playing a crucial role in instilling a sense of security among the people for the last 100 years. He also said that under the present situation, the police station had to play an even greater role in view of the changing dynamics of crime. He also hailed the larger fraternity of Assam Police for standing by the people in times of emergency as well as during general needs. Chief Minister Sonowal also lauded the role of police during COVID-19 pandemic induced lockdown. He said that police had played the role of true friends by helping the people afflicted with various problems during the lockdown period. They even went to the extent of providing food to the people.

Chief Minister Sonowal also said that the present BJP-led government in the State had put tremendous importance to providing security to all sections of the people, including women, children and marginalized people. He also said that it was because of the State Government's commitment that fast-track courts had been assigned to try women-related violence and crime related to wildlife. He said that because of the fast disposition of cases, rhino poaching and crime against women had come down to a great extent.

Chief Minister Sonowal asked the police of Dibrugarh district to maintain a humane face and help the people whosoever came to the police station in distress.

Union Minister of State for Food Processing, Rameswar Teli; MLA of Dibrugarh, Prasanta Phukan; and DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta also spoke on the occasion. Minister of State for Revenue, Jogen Mohan; MPs Tapan Kumar Gogoi and Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Chief Minister's Media Adviser Hrishikesh Goswami, and a host of dignitaries were present on the occasion.
