Chabua: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stones for Chabua Sports Association Stadium and an indoor stadium at Chabua in Dibrugarh. The stadiums will further strengthen the sports infrastructure of the state.

Chabua Sports Association will be built under the signature project of 2018-19 at a cost of Rs. 9.88 crore. The indoor stadium would be built from the State-Owned Priority Development (SOPD) funds at a cost of Rs. 2.33 crore.

Following the Prime Minister's motto of 'sabka sath, sabka vikash, sabka viswas,' the government has been working for the all-round development of the state, said Sonowal. He added that the Congress party, which was in power for a longer period of time weakened the society by resorting to divisive politics. Contrary to Congress party, the present state government has strived to strengthen the bond of unity between all the sections of the society and also has worked towards fulfilling the promises it made with which it came to power.

As a result of the sincere and unprecedented efforts taken up by the present state government, the youth of the state have been able to excel in various sectors, Sonowal further added.

Sonowal highlighted the historic step of providing land pattas to indigenous landless people by his government as a strong measure to sustain the indigenous people's control over the state and safeguard their interests while underlining steps such as the construction of six new bridges over the Brahmaputra, setting up of national institutes like IARI at Gogamukh and AIIMS at Changsari, establishing NID at Jorhat etc. since Prime Minister Modi assumed power.

He said that setting up of these two stadiums will largely contribute in the rapid development of sports in the state as well as the entire region, which will further establish Assam as the sports capital of the country.

The event was attended by the Union Minister of State for Food Processing Rameswar Teli, MLAs Chakradhar Gogoi, Teros Gowala, Binod Hazarika, Member Secretary of SLAC for Youth Welfare Lakhya Konwar, and VC of Aniruddhadeb Sports University J.P.Verma.
