BONGAIGAON/KOKRAJHAR: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited the erosion-hit areas of Tulsijhara in Chirang district and flood-affected areas of Jamdaha (Bekar Chowk Bazar) in Bongaigaon district on Tuesday and assessed the devastation caused by River Aie. He also visited flood relief camps set up at No. 341 Majharabari LP School and No. 128 Nowapara LP School by Chirang district administration and interacted with the inmates and took stock of the government services being provided at the centres.

While interacting with media persons during his visit, the Chief Minister said that the flood water of Aie River had destroyed large tracts of agricultural land and affected large number of people in both Chirang and Bongaigaon districts. He assured that the State Government would take prompt steps for finding lasting solution to flood and erosion caused by Aie River. Referring to a question regarding water flowing down from Bhutan causing flood in Assam, the Chief Minister said that the Central Government would take up the matter with the Bhutan government for bringing out an early solution.

The Chief Minister further said that he had made personal visits to various flood-affected districts to have a first-hand understanding about the damages caused by flood and the quality of services rendered by the administration to the flood hit. He said that the local administrations were taking expeditious measures for helping out the flood hit and people had also extended full cooperation.

State Water Resources Minister Keshav Mahanta and Tourism Minister Chandan Brahma accompanied the Chief Minister during his visit to the erosion-hit Tulsijhara in Chirang while State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury was present at the time of his visit to Jamdaha in Bongaigaon.

Earlier, Chief Minister Sonowal took stock of the COVID-19 and flood situation in Chirang and Bongaigaon districts on Monday night in a meeting held at BRPL guesthouse with senior district administration officials.
