MARIANI: One person perished in a road accident after being hit by a speeding commercial vehicle in the Jorhat district of Assam. Local people who witnessed the accident expressed resentment that the 108 emergency services were not able to reach the location even after one and a half hours of the accident.

The incident took place in front of the head office of Hengul Theatres located in Mariani. The vehicle was moving from Mariani towards Jorhat. Onlookers mentioned that the victim of the incident was Ankur Hazarika, who belonged to Dokolinga in Mariyani. He was riding on his bicycle when a Bolero Pick Up vehicle coming from the opposite side at a high speed ran him over.

The commercial vehicle which committed the accident had the registration number AS 03 BC 8927 and the driver fled from the location immediately. Although bystanders dialled 108 immediately after the incident, the ambulance did not arrive until one and a half hours later leading to the demise of the victim.

Meanwhile, a girl student riding pillion on a scooter was killed after being struck from behind by a school bus in Guwahati.

The incident occurred around 8:10 a.m. A female student identified as Priya Kumari from Little Flower School in Class XI , who was declared dead on the scene after being hit by a Royal Global school bus with the registration number AS-01-PC-7411.

Meanwhile, Basistha police confiscated the school bus involved in a hit-and-run accident. The school bus with the registration number 'AS-01-PC-7411' is registered with Royal Global School in Lokhra.

The bus driver, identified as Bipul Boro, has been arrested, according to authorities. In connection with the incident, the bus's handyman has also been detained.

However, a video that came out later pointed out that the reason for the accident was caused because of a hole that was dug there, and not by the school bus driver.
