Committee formed to implement welfare schemes for tea tribes in Tinsukia

TINSUKIA: In order to achieve socio-economic development of tea tribes, a Tinsukia Subdivisional Tea and Ex-Tea Tribe Beneficiary Selection committee has been constituted to implement the welfare schemes as envisaged by the Directorate for Welfare of Tea and Ex-Tea Garden Tribes, Government of Assam, for the year 2018-19.

With an outlay of Rs 80 crore Statewide, a total of 39 tea gardens in Tinsukia subdivision have been brought within its ambit, informed Sanjay Kishan, MLA of Tinsukia.

In a press meet, the MLA, while releasing the list of schemes, said that the job of the Selection Committee headed by Rajen Koiri would be to identify the beneficiaries and to submit the proposals before August 31. Pre-matric and post-matric scholarship will be provided to each student ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 7,000 annually while students enrolled in postgraduate and professional studies will get Rs 30,000 and Rs 35,000 respectively.

Elaborating the other schemes in detail, Kishan informed that financial assistance would be provided for ANM, GNM and technical courses to the tune of Rs 20,000 while persons above the age group 60 years and infirm would get Rs 6,000 per annum, so also widows and single women. These apart, the schemes also envisaged distribution of scooters to girls who secure first division in HS examination, grants of Rs 25,000 to women SHG, bicycles to women in the age group of 14-28 years, grants to Welfare NGOs, power tiller under FOIG, and self-employment generating scheme for educated unemployed youths.
