Comprehensive development and empowerment of indigenous Muslims

LAKHIMPUR: Following the moves taken by the Government of Assam, special initiatives have been undertaken in Lakhimpur and Dhemaji for the comprehensive development and empowerment of the indigenous Muslim community people of the both districts.

Notably, the Government of Assam constituted seven sub-groups/committees on July 31 to suggest measures and recommendations to bring about overall futuristic development for indigenous Assamese Muslims living in the State. The sub-groups or committees have been constituted by the Welfare of Minorities and Development Department and they will undertake thorough studies on population stabilization, healthcare, cultural identity, education, financial inclusion, skill development and women empowerment of the indigenous Assamese Muslim community of the State. The sub-groups or committees comprise of prominent indigenous Assamese Muslims from different walks of life as members and senior ACS officers as Member Secretary who will submit their detailed reports and recommendations within three months for taking further necessary actions.

As a part of this move, a crucial meeting of the Sub-Committee on Skill Development was held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office of Lakhimpur on Wednesday in order to discuss about various prospects of skill development of the indigenous Muslim community people of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts.

President of the committee-cum-head of the Mechanical Engineering department of Dibrugarh Polytechnic, Mujibur Rahman, Member Secretary-cum-Joint Secretary of Industry and Commerce Department, ACS officer Sazzad Alam, Member-cum-Oil Industry Professor Md Rashid Arif Hussain were present in the meeting in addition to Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan and District Information and Public Relation Officer Mandira Chayengiya. On the other hand, a galaxy of prominent, leading citizens of indigenous Muslim community covering Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts took active part in the meeting. In the meeting, especially recommendations and suggestions were sought from the leading citizens in view of the enhancement of professional skills and self-employment of the people concerned. The sub-committee will forward these suggestions to the State Government by making a detailed report.
