Congress appoints Jitendra Singh as AICC General Secretary

Guwahati: In a recent development, Jitendra Singh has been appointed as the General Secretary (in-charge) of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee on Friday, as per an official statement the party said.

Notably, Jitendra Singh replaces Harish Rawat as the new general secretary of the Grand Old Party in Assam.

On Friday, Congress President Sonia Gandhi appointed new general secretaries and heads of the All India Congress Committee.

Assam Congress in its official Twitter handle welcomed Jitendra Singh and thanked Congress president Sonia Gandhi for appointing him as the in-charge of Assam PCC.

Former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi has been re-elected as a member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC).

In the meantime, All India Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev representing Silchar constituency has been elected as a special invitee.

Leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ambika Soni, Moti Lal Vohra, Luzenio Falerio and Mallikarjun Kharge were dropped from the list of general secretaries.

It is to be mentioned that the reshuffle comes in the wake of a section of party leaders writing to Sonia Gandhi seeking organisational reforms in the Congress.

The signatories to the missive came in for some sharp criticism at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held recently.
