LAKHIMPUR: The Congress party has flayed the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in the State, alleging their comprehensive failure with regard to controlling the exorbitant prices of the petro-products along with other essential communities.

In this connection, the Lakhimpur District Congress Committee (LDCC) resorted to four-day-long protest programmes across North Lakhimpur from February 21 till day. On Wednesday, the activists and the supporters of the political party, under the banner of LDCC, staged protest in the Khelmati Petrol Pump premises and demanded the governments at the Centre and in the State to control the sky-rocketing prices of petro-products and the essential commodities at earliest for the sake of the common people.

Attending the protest programme, the LDCC spokesman slammed the governments regarding the issue. "Why do common people have to buy petrol at exorbitant price, the genuine price of which is only Rs. 30? The ruling party is running the government with falsehood. The hike in the prices of essential commodities has made the people suffer a lot. At present the ruling party has sponsored cheap politics in view of the upcoming election. The people of the State will bid goodbye to this government in the assembly poll," Prashanta Gogoi asserted while expressing resentment over the issue.

Notably, LDCC staged the protest programmes at Eveready Petrol Pump premises on February 21, at Ahu Chaol Gaon Petrol Pump premises on February 22 and at Nakari Petrol Pump premises on February 23, with the support of Lakhimpur Block Congress Committee and Town Block Congress Committee. LDCC president Pradip Gogoi and former LDCC president Dr. Joy Prakash Das took part in the protest programmes along with other dignitaries of the district committee, block committees and brother-sister organizations of the political party. The protesters slammed the government by shouting various slogans.
