DIPHU: The Joint Extended Meeting of the Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (KA-DCC) was convened on Monday at the Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan in Diphu, Karbi Anglong, drawing significant participation from prominent Congress leaders and dedicated party workers. The meeting focused on preparations for the upcoming visit of Indian National Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on July 16.
Key attendees included Dhubri Lok Sabha MP Rakibul Hussain, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Publicity Committee Chairman, Biswajit Roy Choudhury, and the Secretary of APCC. The newly-appointed KA-DCC President Raton Engti was also present, joined by former MLA Jagat Sing Engti and former Executive Members Pradip Singnar and Ashok Teron. The gathering saw active participation from the office bearers of the District, Block, and Mandal Congress units, alongside other party workers.
The meeting served as a platform to brief district, block, and mandal leaders, as well as state unit office bearers, on the organizational preparations for the high-profile visit of Kharge and Gandhi. Discussions centered on strengthening the party’s framework in Karbi Anglong and strategizing for greater regional outreach.
During the event, MP Rakibul Hussain took a sharp jab at Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, claiming the CM has been ‘sleepless’ since Gaurav Gogoi’s appointment as APCC President. Hussain criticized the ruling party for its failure to address the persistent electricity shortages in Karbi Anglong, highlighting governance shortcomings. He also accused the CM and his ministerial colleagues of undermining journalists, calling their conduct ‘similar in nature.’
Addressing media queries about a rumoured ban on Gaurav Gogoi’s visits to Karbi Anglong, Hussain dismissed the notion, stating, “As the son of former CM Late Tarun Gogoi, Gaurav is loved by the people of Karbi Anglong whole-heartedly. There is no question of a ban on his visits.”
