MANGALDAI: "The Congress is making a mockery of themselves by organizing the Pratarana Divas as the Congress is a symbol of exploitation, corruption and cheating during their 55 years in power. The Emergency clamped by Congress in 1975 is the glaring example of crushing democracy for 21 months and till date there is no democracy in the Congress as the Congress bows before the Nehru dynasty," said Mangaldai Parliamentarian DilipSaikia while coming down heavily on the Congress for organizing the Pratarana Divas on Monday.

Addressing a press meet at the conference hall of Circuit House on Monday afternoon, Parliamentarian Saikia, flanked by both the legislators Binanda Kumar Saikia of Sipajhar and Guru Jyoti Das of Mangaldai, accused the Congress of killing the 855 Swahids during the six-year long AASU-sponsored historic Assam Movement and said that that was the reason the Congress never made any initiative to implement the provisions of the Assam Accord.

Citing the exploitation and corruption of the Congress, he also said that during the rule of the Congress, mid-day meal was provided in the name of nine lakhs fake students, 3,60,000 fake ration cards and 4,50,000 fake job cards only to loot the public exchequer. Rampant poaching of one-horned rhinos is the gift of the Congress to Assam and zero poaching has been reported during the BJP government, he said. Saikia added that it was the BJP government which dared to put corrupt APSC chairman Rakesh Paul.

He reiterated the commitment of the BJP to respect the sentiment and emotion of the people of the State. Earlier, Saikia greeted people on Raksha Bandhan and Sanskrit Bhasha Divas through the media persons. Both the legislators Binanda Kumar Saikia and Guru Jyoti Das also addressed the press meet.
