Congress MLA A.K Rasheed Alam under fire for mistreating media journalist Rajdeep Baruah on camera

The MLA reportedly used indecent language,and abused journalist Rajdeep Baruah in front of a live show, sparking sharp reactions and public protests from media circles and civil society.

Guwahati: An effigy of Congress MLA Abul Kalam Rasheed Alam was burnt in Dolmukh Chariali, Sivasagar, today as part of a public protest. The protest was triggered by the MLA’s alleged misbehaviour with a senior journalist Rajdeep Bailung Baruah, who is editor in chief of News Daily 24, during a live television show. MLA Abul was seen shouting obscenities such as “Nonsense!” and behaviour that is not fit for a public figure such as him. 

People are seen chanting “Murdabad!” out on roads, holding up plagues that read, “Abul Rasheed has to apologise.”, “Stop misbehaving with the media.” People are protesting in a large group, demanding an apology from the MLA and demanding that such bad behaviour should not be repeated against any media persons and journalists. The general public are on the side of journalist Rajdeep Bailung and regard him as a senior and respected journalist and are against him receiving mental distress due to such misbehavior towards him. 

Members of local organisations and media bodies led the protest, demanding accountability and condemning the MLA’s conduct. The demand an apology within 24 hours and to take responsibility for the damage done.
