DIBRUGARH: Around hundreds of Congress members took out a rally under the 'Mehengai Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' in protest against the skyrocketing price of fuel and other essential commodities in Dibrugarh on Saturday. The rally was led by senior Congress leader and former Union DoNER Minister Paban Singh Ghatowar. The Congress members took out a procession from the Rajiv Bhavan to the Thana Chariali area.

The protesters holding placards and banners raised slogans against the BJP government for failing to curb the price rise. Hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Paban Singh Ghatowar said that the BJP government was more concerned about the benefit of its corporate friends like Adani and Ambani than the common people of the country.

"The BJP government is there only for the Adani and the Ambanis. The price of petrol, diesel, cooking gas and other essentials have touched the sky but the government is unmoved. In the last 10 days, the price of petrol has increased 9 times. The BJP is doing politics even with price. When there were Assembly elections they put a hold on fuel price but no sooner the results were declared they again started hiking prices on a daily basis. The BJP is now blaming the Russia-Ukraine war for the price rise but even before the conflict the price of essential commodities had been skyrocketing," Ghatowar said.

He added, "The common people are suffering due to the price rise. The government have committed to work for the people but it seems that they are working on the behest of the capitalist." Former Congress MLA from Chabua Raju Sahu and general secretary of Dibrugarh District Congress Committee Rajkumar Nilanetra Neog participated in Saturday's protest rally.
