LAKHIMPUR: The members of Congress and the brother-sister organizations of the political party staged massive protest in North Lakhimpur town on Monday demanding CBI probe into the leakage of question papers of the Sub-Inspector recruitment exam.

The protesters, led by Lakhimpur District Congress Committee (LDCC) president Dr Joy Prakash Das and general secretary Gangajyoti Tayegam, took out a protest rally in the town and attempted to gherao the North Lakhimpur Police Station in support of the demand. The Lakhimpur Police and security personnel prevented the rally from further proceeding in front of the office of the Inspector of Schools, Lakhimpur.

Ignoring the torrential rain, the protesters rocked the environment by shouting multiple slogans flaying alleged comprehensive failure on the part of the Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP government towards conducting any recruitment exam in the past years. They demanded the immediate arrest of former police officer PK Dutta who has been declared as the prime accused in the question paper leakage of the SI recruitment exam.

Lakhimpur Police arrested hundreds of protesters and detained them at North Lakhimpur Boys' HS School playground. They were released later.
