GOLAGHAT: The Congress party in Golaghat staged a strong protest against the alleged corruption in the Garukhuti Girgai scheme on Monday while Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma was visiting the district.

The protesters demonstrated against the government’s alleged corruption, irregularities, and nepotism. Congress workers showed black flags to the Chief Minister and Cabinet Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, symbolizing their disapproval. Protesters burned effigies of the Chief Minister and the Cabinet Minister, highlighting their strong opposition. Despite the deployment of over 100 police personnel, the protest could not be controlled, leading to clashes between the police and protesters.

Protesters raised slogans like ‘Catch the cow thief,’ ‘BJP is shameful,’ and demanded strict action against corruption and irregularities in government’s schemes. They demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Cabinet Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah.
