SILCHAR: The Assam chapter of the Congress, energised by the "success" of Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, will now launch a similar rally in Barak Valley. 'Haath se Haath Jodo Yatra' as termed by the APCC, would start on January 28 from Dholai bordering Mizoram and would end on February 10 at Malegarh in Karimganj bordering Bangladesh. This was informed by APCC president Bhupen Bora here in Silchar on Friday. Bharat Jodo Yatra was flagged off by AICC general secretary Jitendra Singh on November 1 from Dhubri and was wrapped up on December 15 at Sadiya, but significantly the 815 kilometres rally in Assam did not touch Barak Valley. Virtually as an act of redemption, the AICC would now start a similar rally in Barak Valley.

Speaking to mediapersons here, Bora, who led an AICC team in a two days Barak Valley trip, hinted that by initiating the 'padayatra' from Dholai, the opposition party would highlight the state government's 'failure' in solving the border issue with Mizoram. Bora said, the 'Haath se Haath Jodo Yatra' would cover 165 kilometres in 14 days as the Congressmen would walk 11kms per day in the 15 Assembly segments in the valley.

Debabrata Saikia, the opposition leader in the state Assembly said, the BJP government was working under the dictates of the Ambanis and Adanis. "People should be made aware of the fact that how the unholy nexus between the corporates and the BJP governments, both in State as well as in the Centre, had been depriving the commoners by exorbitant hiking of prices of the essential commodities. The 'Yatra' would highlight this, he added.
