Contributions of Swahid Kamala Saikia recalled in Udalguri district

TANGLA: "Swahid Kamala Saikia was a fearless torch bearer of our society. He continued his scribbling against the social injustice and meaninglessness of armed struggle in Assam and sacrificed his life challenging the social odds . We the people related to media world have to learn a lot from this fearless soldier of fourth pillar of democracy. We still lament for the failure of the government to nab the culprits behind the inhuman killings of first martyr in the world of Assamese journalism." This was observed by poet Gautamjyoti Talukdar, on the occasion of 31st death anniversary of martyr journalist Kamala Saikia at Kendukolai Bhawan in Kalaigaon of Udalguri district on Tuesday.

The memorial meet hosted by Udalguri chapter of Assam Press Correspondents Union (APCU) was presided over by senior journalist, Deepak Deka. Earlier the programme got underway with floral tributes to the martyr journalist by the media persons of the district. The meet was also addressed by Udalguri Lekhkikha Xamaroh Secretary, Khira Saikia Deka, Organizing Secretary of Udalguri chapter APCU, Shajid Khan and senior journalist Girish Sarma.
