SILCHAR: "Corruption under Himanta rule means jail." This message has gone loud and clear. The administration of Karimganj has adopted an uncompromising attitude towards any kind of irregularities in public life. For the last successive years, two big scams in respect of recruitments have come to light. Kumar Sanjit Krishna, then SP, has to go to jail for leaking out question papers in lieu of a huge amount of money.

For the irregularities committed during the recruitment of constables this year, two officers and several others have to face incarceration. On Sunday, nine others, three policemen and the rest of the candidates appearing for physical tests have to face the music and go to jail in the same case. This scam was detected through a digital device, according to an informed source. The well-organised irregularities in the police recruitment rallies were reported in The Sentinel when it was brought into focus by Karimganj police.

Those taken into custody are Ruhul Khan, Jabrul Haque, Noor Ahmed, Parmita Das, Rinku Das, Ripa Das, Jabir Ahmed, Hans Narayan Sinha and Priya Sinha. Those involved in this scam fear trouble time ahead. There is an apprehension that more arrests might follow. In fact, on the basis of specific complaint, a district level monitoring committee was formed to investigate the irregularities under the chairmanship of SP Padmanath Barua unearthed the scam. Thus many heads rolled on, leading to nerve breaking jolts among others with their guilty mind. It was a brazen attempt to qualify the unqualified candidates.

Among the nine persons arrested on Sunday are two engineers of Info Clave Private Limited. SP Padmanath Barua filed the case. Interestingly, three police men were arrested along with their three sons. Krishendu Paul, BJP MLA of Patharkandi, reacting to the series of arrests said, "Under BJP regime at Dispur, corruption will not be tolerated." Mission Ranjan Das, AIDC Chairman, demanded dismissal from services of those arrested in the scam. He called upon the citizens to become more vigilant and extend cooperation to the administration.
