NAHARKATIA: There is great news for the people of the State. The largest Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) colony in India will be set up in a completely natural environment along the Assam-Arunachal border under Naharkatiya constituency in Dibrugarh district.
A team of various government departments, including local MLA Tarang Gogoi, Dibrugarh District Magistrate Biswajit Pegu, District Development Commissioner Sanjoy Dutta, local revenue circle officer Sarat Gogoi, Joypur development block development officer Ranjit Buragohain, BJP Joypur mondol president Mridul Kalita arrived in Namchang on Wednesday to visit the site of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana colony to be set up in Namsang area under Jaipur Panchayat.
This is the first PMAY colony in India to be set up in a natural environment. The mega colony, which will be set up on 32 bighas of land at a cost of around Rs 4 crore, will have 115 housing houses, children's parks, Anganwadi centres, solar powered power systems, technical training centres, toilets under sanitation schemes and clean drinking water. There will also be provision for rearing cows, goats, duck and chicken in this ideal colony.
Beneficiaries below the poverty line will be able to avail these facilities, including a Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana house with a single land in this colony. On the other hand, the district administration said that the bank of Burhidihing River near Namsang will also be set up as a tourist destination with the aim of providing livelihood opportunities to local youths.
