MANGALDAI: What could be the best marriage anniversary gift for a couple who had lost almost all hopes of becoming biological parents and was waiting for almost six years for a baby through the legal adoption process? Definitely a healthy baby! This dream of a couple from Dharmanagar area in North Tripura was transformed into reality when they received a healthy baby from the government-registered Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA) at Mangaldai on their 9th marriage anniversary.

A simple handing-over ceremony was organized at the campus of the child home run by NGO 'Crystal Vision' recently where the chairperson of Mangaldai Municipal Board, Nirmali Devi Sharma, in presence of Mangaldai Revenue Circle Officer Nayanjyoti Pathak, member of District Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Purnima Goswami and members of the NGO ceremonially handed over the four-month old male baby to the couple under the legal provisions of adoption. The couple was so filled with emotions as they could not control the tears rolling down their cheek.

Nirmali Devi Sharma and Circle Officer Nayan Jyoti Pathak congratulated the couple on completion of their family, that too on their marriage anniversary, and asked them to take care of the child in their best possible way.

Expressing their feelings, the couple who do not want to be named, termed the occasion as the best moment of their life. "I am simply speechless. I had lost hope that I could ever experience parenthood. Now the baby is a gift from Lord Krishna," said the father. "We are overwhelmed by the way the staff of the child home has been taking care of the child and the support that we got from its managing committee since the process had begun three weeks back," he added.

Earlier, the adoption committee of the SAA comprising of senior Paediatrician Dr Gautam Kr Borah, Protection Officer (NIC) of the District Child Protection Unit, Kanaklata Baruah and SAA Coordinator Mami Saikia formally approved the adoption process.
