LAKHIMPUR: A couple, who returned from the State of Haryana, was detected positive for COVID-19 in Lakhimpur. They have been identified as Brojen Changmai (42) and his wife Dipanjali Changmai (36), residents of Bortengani village under Dhakuakhana subdivision. The results of the test of their swab samples were reported to the District Health Department on Monday night.

As per report found, the couple lived at Gurugram in Haryana along with their 11-year old daughter and nine-year old son. There Brojen Changmai worked in a shopping mall. On June 3, the family went to New Delhi by hiring a cab and arrived at a place named Nangbloi where one of their close relatives, Hemanta Chamua lives. The family stayed in the house of Hemanta Chamuah from June 3 to June 13.

On June 13, the family set off on their return journey to Lakhimpur by flight via Dibrugarh Mohanbari Airport. On the same day around 6.30 pm, they arrived at North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital (NLCH) in administration-sponsored vehicle along with three other passengers. Then their swab samples were collected at NLCH and all of them were suggested for home quarantine as per protocol because of the two minor children. Though the couple tested positive for coronavirus, the swab samples of their two children were negative. They have been shifted to the Dedicated COVID Care Centre at Boginadi Model Hospital (DCHC). The two children have also been kept in a separate room of the said DCHC as per the suggestion of the Lakhimpur District Magistrate as the children had refused to stay in their house away from their parents. The District Health Department has adopted safety measures to secure the health of the two children.

On the other hand, Lakhimpur district administration declared the geographical area of Hotel A&A2 under Ward No. 11 of North Lakhimpur town as containment zone. An employee of the hotel, Bikash Ali tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday night. The Deputy Commissioner of the district designated the geographical area of the hotel as containment zone and an area of 1 km as buffer zone to arrest the further spread of COVID-19 in the interest of public health.
