JORHAT: The Jorhat district administration started the Assam Targeted Surveillance Programme (ATSP) in the district on Wednesday.

The State Government has introduced ATSP across the State to carry out COVID-19 testing of persons included in some categories like truck parking and unloading boys, frontline district officials, hotel staff, family members of persons released from institutional quarantine, employees working in weigh bridge, petrol pumps, dhabas and motor vehicle garages.

Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat, Roshni Aparanji Korati said, "ATSP started in Jorhat district on Wednesday. I have tested negative. Rest samples will be collected in a phased manner."

Besides collection of samples of people, the government has directed to maintain detailed record of all trucks and other long-distance vehicles entering parking stations, dhabas, loading-unloading centres, godowns, weigh bridge and petrol pumps. Screening and random sample collection from the staff members like reception staff, bearers and cleaners of those hotels which are being used as institutional quarantine will also be done under this programme.
