COVID-19 cases continue to surge in Lakhimpur, 107 new cases detected

LAKHIMPUR: Due to the community transmission of novel coronavirus at various places under Lakhimpur, over 100 COVID-19 cases have been detected everyday in the district, except one day, since May 7. Only on May 9 being Sunday, the number of detected COVID-19 patients was 42 while the detection of the same was 117 on May 7, 113 on May 8 and 134 on May 10.

With the continuation of this trend, a total of 107 fresh COVID-19 cases were detected in the district on Tuesday as per the result of Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted across the district. On this day, the District Health Department conducted the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) upon 2207 people across the district. The detected cases were reported from North Lakhimpur Urban Hospital (2), Dhalpur BPHC (24), Bihpuriya BPHC (17), Naoboicha BPHC (13), Boginadi BPHC (27), Dhakuakhana BPHC (2) and Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital Respiratory Clinic (22). On this day, the Health Department of the district registered 69 per cent achievement with regard to conducting the RAT out of the targeted figure 2790.

With these fresh patients, the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases of the district has surged to 9,455 since April 4 of the last year. Out of them, 8,522 recovered patients have been discharged from hospitals and home quarantine while there are 860 active cases in the district at present. On Tuesday, two recovered patients were discharged from institutional isolation while 15 recovered patients were discharged from home isolation. A total of 1,343 people of the district tested positive for COVID-19 during the second wave of the contagion since April 1 of the current year.

On the other hand, in view of the detection of 9 COVID-19 cases at KhanikarChuk and PodumoniAai Than Market area of Naharbari NC village under Kadam Revenue Circle of the district, Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur-cum-District Magistrate, KhageswarPegu has declared the two areas as Micro Containment Zone in order to arrest the spread of the pandemic and to break the chain of the contagion in the interest of the public health. By declaring the two areas as containment zone under Section 3(b), (c), (h) and (m) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the Deputy Commissioner has restricted the exit and entry of the people in and out of the containment zones. During the containment period, only staff for providing food and other essential services to people is allowed. The designated staff will have to be allowed to enter inside the containment zone only after wearing of full PPE. On the other hand, one more casualty due to COVID-19 was reported in the district on Tuesday. The deceased person has been identified as Someswari Borah (80), resident of Borkathoni village under Dhalpur BPHC. She succumbed to the novel coronavirus infection on Monday at home. She tested positive for COVID-19 after her death as she had been ill for several days. Earlier, two persons of her family tested positive for COVID-19 as per information found from the Health Department.
