COVID-19: Legal Action Against Violators of Home Quarantine Order

LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district administration has authorized the Circle Officers and Medical Officers of the district to stamp the suspected persons to be kept under home quarantine for observation of COVID-19 symptoms.

Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, Dr. Jeevan B has authorized them for the same by issuing an order as per the direction of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Assam, vide letter No. HLA 269/2020/2 dated March 21.

Through the order, the Deputy Commissioner has served some guidelines regarding the issue as per which the stamping will be done on the back side of the left hand of the suspected person with indelible ink. The stamping will be done after thorough screening of the person and indiscriminate stamping should be avoided.

The authorized officers will have to maintain a list of such stamped persons along with the date until which they have to remain under home quarantine and to inform the District Surveillance Officer, IDSP for regular monitoring. The date to be stamped will be 14 days from the beginning of home quarantine.

According to the same order, any person kept under home quarantine if found violating the home quarantine order, will be dealt with stern action as per COVID-19 regulation. In this regard, the Circle Officers and the Medical Officers of respective circles are also imposed the authority of lodging FIR against the violator in the respective police jurisdiction under Section 188 of Indian Penal Code.
