COVID-19 lockdown: strict action will be taken against violators, DGP warns

Guwahati: The Assam Police will take strict action against those who will disobey guidelines of the on-going nationwide lockdown, DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has warned. Addressing media on Wednesday, the state Director General of Police, Mahanta said that only Emergency Services vehicles like medical staff, media, police etc. would be allowed to run till April 20, 2020. “Nobody should come out from home with private vehicles for roaming. The COVID-19 revised guidelines issued on today by the Union Home Ministry would be followed strictly. No authorised people will be permitted to travel on private vehicle. Police will take strong action against the violators,” the DGP said. Meanwhile, the Union Home Ministry issued a set of new COVID-19 guidelines, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on the coronavirus pandemic, on April 14. DGP Mahanta today held a meeting with senior police officials at the Srimanta Shankardeva Kalakshetra.
