COVID-19 Pandemic: Cachar moves from containment to free zone

SILCHAR: Lockdown, people's adherence to guidelines, dedicated services by doctors and paramedics, upgraded facilities at quarantine and treatment centres, best of facilities at Silchar Medical College and Hospital and above all the personal attention of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Cachar district has moved from containment zone to free zone as no fresh positive case has been reported during the last 24 days. Moreover the district administration of Cachar under the leadership of Barnali Sharma, DC, and her retinue of officials, media wing and various categories of staff deserve all kudos for their coordinated approach in dealing with the crisis

The first positive case of Assam, a Nizamuddin religious congregation returnee, Jamal Uddin, was treated and cured and released from SMCH on Wednesday after long 40 days of quarantine in presence of Aminul Haque Laskar, Deputy Speaker of Assam Assembly, doctors and staff. The occasion was also to honour and felicitate the 12 great warrior doctors and 18 health workers kept in institutional quarantine centres released after 14 days of confinement. They worked hard to treat four positive cases of the district.

The doctors and paramedics would be at home for two weeks and after that they could resume their duties. To keep their morale high and truly in consonance with their dedicated services, all of them were accorded warm felicitation at their two centres of quarantine separately. At the felicitation functions were present Dr Barnali Sharma who applauded the 12 doctors in presence of Lolita Rongpipi, ADC, Dr Abhijit Swami, Suptd of SMCH, Dr Bhaskar Gupta Vice Principal, Sumana Naiding, on behalf of Joint Director of Health Services, and other officers. The doctors were presented gifts, hand sanitizers and other necessary protective equipments.
