LAKHIMPUR: District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, Dr Jeevan B has declared the Ward No. 11 under North Lakhimpur town as containment zone in the wake of the detection of one COVID- 19 patient in the district who stayed at the Abdul Letif Baruah Path of the ward concerned. In this regard, the District Magistrate-cum- DC served an order on Sunday. Through the same order, the District Magistrate has also declared an area of five kilometre around Ward No 11 as buffer zone.
The COVID-19 patient of the district, named Babu Ali (18), was living in a rented house at Abdul Letif Baruah Path of the ward along with his parents and an aunt. He was one of the attendees of the Tablighi Jamaat of Nizamuddin Markaz in New Delhi from the district. His swab sample was sent to the Regional Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory, ICMR, RMRC, Lahoal of Dibrugarh district for COVID-19 test on Friday and the report came positive for novel coronavirus on Saturday.
The DC has declared the ward as containment zone by exercising his power conferred upon him by the Assam COVID-19 Containment Regulation, 2020 and based on the assessment of civil and police administrations and Rapid Response Team of the Health Department of the district to break the very chain of transmission of the pandemic.
Strict perimeter control will be enforced in the containment zone for its residents. The same will be enforced for anyone entering the containment zone for active surveillance and for maintenance of essential services.
As per the same order, an area of five kilometre around Ward No 11 is declared as buffer zone. All the activities as per the Assam COVID-19 Containment Regulations, 2020 will be undertaken by all departments concerned with utmost attention to the details and maintaining all necessary precautions for infection, prevention and control using Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
Vehicles and persons entering and exiting the containment zone is restricted and sanitized as per protocol. All mass gathering events and meetings in public, private places in the containment zone are banned until further order is served. The order has come into force with immediate effect.
The essential commodities and allied services will be provided to the residents of the area by the district administration. Moreover, medical teams will conduct health screening of the residents visiting each and every house in the area. In this regard, the Health Department of the district has appealed to all the people to co-operate with the health screening teams.
