DIBRUGARH: Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Pijush Hazarika, in the presence of Union Minister of State (Ind) for Food Processing Industry, RameswarTeli, Minister of State (Ind) for Tea Tribes Welfare, Sanjay Kishan, MLA of Lahowal LAC, RituparnaBarua and Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha, formally inaugurated the 150-bedded COVID Care Centre at Khanikar. Meanwhile, efforts are on for setting up another 150-bedded COVID Care Centre at the same venue which is likely to be opened within 3-4 days.

Hazarika in his inaugural address instructed the district administration and Health Department to put more stress on mass screening of COVID-19 in order to contain COVID infection. "Rising COVID cases in the district can only be contained effectively through mass screening," Hazarika added.

He later inaugurated a plasma bank at the premises of Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) and felicitated the first plasma donor, Satish Kedia of HS Road. Hazarika, while addressing the gathering, called upon all those who recovered from COVID-19 to donate their blood plasma, which Hazarika said would help to cure two COVID infected people. After a detailed discussion with the district administration and AMCH authority on availability of beds for COVID patients and health care workers, Hazarka asked the AMCH authority to arrange another 200 beds in AMCH within a week and assured that the Health Department would take necessary steps to send more nurses to AMCH for offering effective services to COVID patients.
