DOOMDOOMA: A COVID patient, Hiramoni Barman (40), allegedly died by suicide at Siksha, the Gurukul COVID Care Centre, Barhapjan on Wednesday night.

According to reports, Hiramoni Barman, who was a tea worker of Prabhat TE, Rupaisiding, was admitted in the COVID Care Centre on Monday. On the fateful day, Hiramoni reportedly tried to escape from COVID Care Centre at night. But the security personnel on duty apprehended her and brought her back to her room. But no sooner had they entered the room, Hiramoni somehow managed to free herself from their clutches and jumped to the ground from the window of the room which was on the third floor of the school building.

According to the COVID Care Centre staff, the incident took place at around 9 pm. Hiramoni was mother of three children and her husband had died about three months back, as revealed by her fellow workers.

In the meanwhile, the workers of Prabhat TE staged protest in front of the Prabhat TE office on Thursday and demanded Rs 50 lakh as compensation to be paid to the next of the kin of the deceased. The body was taken for postmortem examination.
