Crackdown Continues on Drugs, Gambling across Assam

DUDHNOI: Dudhnoi police nabbed two youths in Dudhnoi area on Tuesday and managed to recover about 14 grams of drugs (heroin), several syringes as well as Rs 7,500 in cash, two mobile phones and several empty consignors from the two youths.

The arrested youths have been identified as Dhanjit Brahma alias Lambu (27) of Dudhnoi College Road and Raju Bhadra of New Dudhnoi Area (28). The two youths arrested in the operation led by Goalpara Deputy Superintendent of Police Rupjyoti Kalita and Dudhnoi police officer-in-charge Mukut Kakati, are reportedly drug addicts.

Case No. 63/21 of Dudhnai Police Station, 21(B)/29 of The Indian Penal Code Act, 21(B)/29 under the Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered against the two youths. Police sources said that police were conducting operation against drug traffickers.

DOOMDOOMA: Doomdooma PS Inspector Dibyajyoti Dutta and his team on Sunday busted an illegal gambling den at Borhapjan and caught red-handed five gamblers in a house in front of Barhapjan Petrol pump. The arrested gamblers have been identified as Chandan Bagh, Yogendra Prasad, Pramod Prasad, Deepak Kalwar and Nibhas Deb. Police recovered Rs. 53,000 in cash and some other articles from them. A case No.177/21 has been registered in this connection under section 13/14 & 15 of Assam Game and Betting Act, 1970.

The gamblers during interrogation revealed that a constable of Doomdooma PS was also playing with them but he had left the place before the police arrived. The OC said that the name of the constable had been mentioned in the FIR and that the further investigation was on. The accused constable is absconding.

On the other hand, Kakopothar police arrested five drug peddlers on Monday from Ubhata Gaon under Kakopothar PS and seized 12.40 gram heroine from their possession. The drug peddlers have been identified as Sanjib Sonowal, Bibeka Sonowal, Biplob Neog , Munin Borah and Monoj Moran. A case no. 22/2021 was registered at Kakopothar PS and the arrested drug peddlers were sent to the judicial custody thereafter.

BARPETA: Two drug peddlers were caught here at Barpeta FAAMCH campus while they were loitering here and there for supplying drugs on Wednesday.

The arrested persons have been identified as Mojahidul Islam and Ashraful Islam of Lengtichinga, Abhayapuri. About 10.45 gram brown sugar were seized from their possession which they brought in a soap box. They left their bike (AS19- H 4201) near the medical college and searched for customers inside the medical college.
