Crackdown on FICN and fake gold smugglers continues in Lakhimpur

Crackdown by Lakhimpur police against fake gold smugglers, fake Indian currency notes (FICN) has continued in the Bongalmora area under the district after Ananda Mishra assumed charge as Superintendent of Police (SP).

LAKHIMPUR: Crackdown by Lakhimpur police against fake gold smugglers, fake Indian currency notes (FICN) has continued in the Bongalmora area under the district after Ananda Mishra assumed charge as Superintendent of Police (SP). The new SP conducted his first operation on Monday to combat the threat of fake gold and currency notes and detained three criminals in connection with fake gold smuggling.

Then he warned the fake gold and FICN smugglers to surrender before police or to face stringent action. In connection, the SP also launched a helpline number- 6000815799 so that people can directly complain or inform about fake gold trade.

Police sources said to this correspondent that a total of 54 fake gold smugglers surrendered before Lakhimpur police arriving at Naoboicha, Bongalmora Police Outposts, and Laluk Police Station since then till date. Out of them, five fake gold smugglers were already sent to jail. They have been identified as Abul Kalam Azad (32), son of Amir Ali, resident of Mohghuli Borghula, Ainul Haque (23), son of Harez Ali, resident of Mohghuli Borghula, Ansar Ali (21), son of Abdul Hai, resident of Mohghuli Borghula, Aminur Rahman (21), son of Hussain Ali, resident of No. 2 Mohghuli, and Ishadul Alom (23), son of Abdul Matin, resident of No. 2 Mohghuli.

Notably, Director General of Police (DGP) Gyanendra Pratap Singh on May 20 promised to take action in response to complaints of widespread fake gold and currency note syndicates during a press conference held in Guwahati regarding the sudden and untimely death of Morikolong Outpost In-charge-cum-Sub-Inspector (SI) Junmoni Rabha, which has still sparked a significant uproar in Assam.

Just one day after Assam DGP GP Singh vowed to “eliminate” the smuggling of fake currency notes and gold in Assam, police detained as many as 11 people from the Sonitpur district for their suspected involvement in the smuggling of fake gold. According to sources, the suspects were apprehended in several locations throughout the district, including Tezpur, Borghat, Chariduar, and Bhalukjarani. Additionally, fake gold pieces were found in their possession. On the other hand, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) already seized alleged fake gold seller Asgar Ali, who is considered to be a significant milestone in relation to the investigation into the death case of SI Junmoni Rabha.
