Crackdown on illegal activities in Sonitpur district

TEZPUR: A series of successful raids were conducted against drugs, illegal gambling, cattle smuggling and illicit liquor at different parts of the Sonitpur district. Acting on a tip-off, a team of Sonitpur police under the supervision of Sushanta Biswa Sarma, Superintendent of Police and Additional SP, (Headquarters) Madhurima Das conducted an operation. The operation team was led by Additional SP Crime, Birinchi Kumar Bora along with DSP Luit Talukdar, OC Tezpur and IC Borghat. Based on reliable source & input regarding transportation of suspected drugs from Dimapur towards Arunachal Pradesh, naka was set up at Koliabhumura Bridge. A vehicle bearing registration number AR 01 F 0999 was intercepted. Two persons, Anil Padum, resident of Dhemaji and Lokam Lulu of Arunachal Pradesh were apprehended along with one lady Dagbi Rime of Arunachal Pradesh. During the search operation, 10 packets of soap boxes were recovered in plastic packets containing 123.20 grams of suspected Heroin.

Another raid was conducted by Sonitpur police after an information was received regarding illegal transportation of suspected drugs at Panchmile under Borghat OP. A vehicle bearing registration No AS12AE 7273 was detained. Five persons were apprehended. They have been identified as Hajrat Ali, resident of Bhergaon, under Dhekiajuli PS in Sonitpur, Guljar Ahmed, resident of Golaghat, Abul Hossain, resident of Nilambajar in Karimganj, Injan Ali of Dimapur and Sahil Hussain, resident of Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district. Police recovered one soap case containing 12 (Twelve) grams of suspected Heroin along with one chain cutter tool, one pointed iron rod and one iron handle. A case has been registered and investigation is going on, Additional SP Madhurima Das said.

Another raid was conducted by Sonitpur police where 4 veteran bike lifters-cum-snatchers were chased in a joint operation by Dhekiajuli Police and the OC of Thelamara Police Station and SI Ritulmoni Das. Police apprehended 2 persons. They have been identified as Habibur Ali, (22) resident of Katani Gaon village under Thelamara PS and Johir Uddin (19), resident of Katoni Gaon village under Thelamara PS in Sonitpur district. Police also recovered 2 stolen motorcycles and one car. Later on another criminal, Rafiqul Islam was apprehended.
