TINSUKIA: The 68 Battalion of CRPF based at Tinsukia under its CSR programme and in association with Friends of Tribal Society (FTS), Tinsukia Chapter, distributed 15 sewing machines among the needy village women in a programme held at Ekal Seva Kendra Padumini in Tinsukia-Guijan Road on Wednesday.

The programme began with the lighting of ceremonial lamp by Monjit Borkakoty, ADC Tinsukia, who graced the occasion as chief guest. In his speech, the commandant of 68 Bn CRPF Rabindra Singh said that the unit was privileged to extend supporting hand to economically marginalized women who intended to attain empowerment. Borkakoty, while appreciating the gesture of CRPF for its commitments towards the society apart from their normal duties, lauded the initiatives of FTS.

The meeting was chaired by Binod Ghorawat, president FTS. Earlier, the general secretary of FTS, Kishan Kr Minda elaborated various employment generated skill development schemes which the Ekal Seva Kendra undertook for economically weaker women. Among these schemes, 3-months training on tailoring was a success. Besides officers of CRPF, Jayanta Madhab Mahanta, Deputy Director of Food & Civil Supplies, was also present. Few beneficiaries also shared their views and thanked CRPF and the FTS for support in enhancing their family income.

Meanwhile, the 168 Battalion of CRPF based at Mahadevpur in Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh organised a Civic Action Program where 10 sewing machines were distributed among women of Dekhang circle on Thursday. The Battalion also donated medical equipments to the community health centre. The commandment Janardhan Upadhyay along with SP of Namsai addressed the gathering.
