TINSUKIA: Crude oil spilled from an Oil India Limited’s sub-station in Bahadur Tea Estate near Bahadur Chariali under Bordubi PS in Tinsukia district on Thursday night created panic in the garden and nearby areas. Even as timely action from OIL authority saved the area from fire disaster and pumped out more than 1200 litres of crude oil, several bighas of agricultural land had been reportedly damaged due to seepage. Though actual cause of the spill could not be ascertained, it is suspected to be an act of pilferage as oil theft is a common practice in the locality.
