TINSUKIA: A big sum of garden workers’ money had been fraudulently withdrawn allegedly by a staff of CSP (Customer Service Point) of the Dihing TE Branch of Punjab National Bank, Golai near Digboi, which created commotion among the tea workers of Pawai Tea Estate.
The garden workers told the media that the majority of garden workers who are illiterate used to deposit forms for withdrawal from Dihing TE Branch of PNB to CSP in-charge Julee Baruah with thumb impression. The CSP allegedly withdrew Rs 7,000-Rs 12,000 extra from the customers’ accounts. This fraudulent withdrawal came to the fore after account holders, suspecting some foul game, reported to the bank for updating their accounts.
The garden workers alleged that she had fraudulently withdrawn several lakhs of rupees during the past few months from hundreds of accounts and made the bank accountable for repayment, while the bank authorities allegedly ignored their grievances.
The CSP handles more than 3,000 accounts of tea workers. A case has been registered at Digboi police station against Julee Baruah who reportedly fled after locking her house
