MANGALDAI: More than 1,000 admirers, well-wishers and friends, besides relatives and family members, on Thursday bade tearful adieu to physician of repute, poet, lyricist, writer and an active organizer of Assamese culture and literature, Dr. Mrinal Choudhury at the personal crematorium site at Chapai Chowk of Mangaldai town.

Earlier, his mortal body was flown from Mumbai to the LGB International Airport, Guwahati and then taken to his residence near Mangaldai Government HS School. A large number of mourners assembled at his residence to offer their last homage. His body was also taken to Mangaldai Poly Clinic of which he was also a proprietor, then to his club Creators Unit and to Youth Club, Mangaldai. A huge convoy of vehicles escorted the mortal remains of Dr. Mrinal Choudhury to the crematorium through the main street of the town. Office bearers of Yuba Teertha, his close friends, namely retired Lower Assam Divisional Commissioner Shantanu Thakur and Mahtabuddin Ahmed, eminent industrialist Mukul Deka of SRD Group of Companies, and a good number of medical practitioners also attended the funeral.

Dr. Mrinal Choudhury, the founder president of Green Society-the first NGO of undivided Darrang district on conservation of wildlife and nature, breathed his last in the wee hours of December 2 at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai.
