JAMUGURIHAT: A seven-day workshop on the folk dance of the Gorkha community organized by the Muradol Gorkha Unnayan Samiti, North Jamuguri was inaugurated by Lakhi Kanta Bora, president of Sootea Anchalik Panchayat, on Wednesday at Rangachakuwa in the presence of a huge gathering.
Binod Khanal, the recipient of the Pratima Pandey Baruah award, attended the workshop as a resource person. Khanal will impart training for the participants on various Gorkha folk dances which are on the verge of extinction, informed one of the organizers. The inaugural session was attended by Ajit Payeng, president of Naduar Anchalik Panchayat, Kishor Dahal, ZPC member, besides other dignitaries. The workshop organized in the community hall located Rangachakuwa centre was attended by 100 participants from various villages of the greater Rangachakuwa area. The number of participants will be increased upto 500, informed Jit Bahadur Newar, president of the organizing committee. The valedictory function will be held on February 13.
