Cyclonic storm with heavy rainfall causes extensive damage in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: A cyclonic storm with heavy rainfall caused severe damage in several areas of Kokrajhar district, especially in the northern side on Sunday night. Two persons were injured by the storm early Monday morning at South Athiabari under Serfanguri police station in Kokrajhar district.

The storm last night caused extensive damages in several areas in the northern part of the district in areas like Patgaon, Dotma, Padmabil, Aflagaon, Puthimari and Belguri. The storm damaged houses, crops and other properties worth lakhs of rupees. Several trees were uprooted blocking roads in various places. Tin roofs were blown away and electricity poles were uprooted in several places.

At South Athiabari under Serfanguri police station in Kokrajhar district, two persons were injured when their houses collapsed under the impact of the storm. The injured persons were immediately taken to RN Brahma Civil Hospital. The injured persons were identified as Meru Kisku (45) and Supol Hasda (50).

Reports of huge damages were also reported from several places in the district. BTC MCLA Jatirindra Brahma visited some of the affected areas and assessed the situation. He appealed to the government for financial compensation to the people affected in the cyclonic storm.
